The Sheffield SCITT’s Top Tips for Your Teacher Training Interview

We all know to attend an interview in formal wear and to speak confidently, but what are some simple things that are often overlooked?

Keep reading to find out!

Read our invite carefully

If we invite you to interview we will send you an email with details on the interview process. This is quite a detailed email to make sure that you have plenty of information and feel confident that you know what to expect.

This email includes the date and time of the interview, the location, what paperwork and documentation is required, and further details of the interview itself.

By reading the invite carefully, you can make sure you have the right equipment and paperwork which will make your interview experience a smoother process, and ensures there are no surprises!

Be punctual

We’re sure it goes without saying that you don’t want to be turning up late to your interview! We don’t expect you to turn up hours before your interview, but arriving 10-15 minutes before your interview helps you to feel more prepared and settled, and sets a great first impression.

There is also a small bit of paperwork to be completed before your interview, so arriving that little bit earlier makes sure we get everything completed on and time and you are ready to go!

We want to hear about your passion for working with children

We love to hear how passionate you are about your subject, but we would also love to hear about your passion for teaching and passion for working with students!

Communication is key

If there is anything you are unsure about, if you are running late, if you can no longer make it to interview - please get in touch!

Perhaps your bus has just broken down on the way to interview, your child is poorly and you have no childcare, you can’t get the day off of work - don’t worry! These things happen. Get in touch to let us know and we will be more than happy to reschedule your interview.

Having open communication is really important, and it is also a great way to set a good impression.
