Secondary teaching insights

Staff at Notre Dame High School in Sheffield chat about their careers in teaching.

Notre Dame High school in Sheffield is the lead school for the Sheffield SCITT.

I recently had the opportunity to interview a group of teachers at Notre Dame High school, in Sheffield, who shared their thoughts and experiences about teaching as a rewarding career and the potential for career progression within the field.

The teachers I spoke with all shared a passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of their students.

When asked about the rewards of teaching, the teachers highlighted a number of factors. Many spoke about the joy they feel when they see their students succeed and grow, whether academically, socially, or emotionally. Others emphasised the satisfaction of being able to make a real difference in the lives of young people, helping them to achieve their goals and dreams.

In terms of career progression, the teachers I spoke with were enthusiastic about the opportunities that are available within the teaching profession. Many talked about the potential to move into leadership roles, such as department heads, curriculum coordinators, or even head teachers.

The head teacher at Notre Dame High School, Deirdre Cleary, offered an insightful look at her career and how she managed to shape her early career around the demands of a young family and how her teaching career evolved.

The teachers I spoke with were passionate about the rewards of teaching and the potential for career progression within the field. Teaching is a challenging but deeply fulfilling profession, and that it offers many opportunities for growth and development.
