About our Secondary SCITT
Jen Benzies is the SCITT director and Secondary Phase Lead and has many years of experience in education and nearly as many years of involvement in initial teacher training. Jen is also a secondary maths teacher at Notre Dame High School, Sheffield and therefore understands what it is currently like to teach in secondary schools.
Notre Dame High School is our Lead Secondary School and is where the SCITT is based. This means that trainees on our secondary courses always have access to one of the SCITT team during hub days.
Secondary Course Summary
All our secondary courses are fully school-based. You will spend 4 days a week spent at your placement school and one day a week at Notre Dame High School, Sheffield for your hub day. Notre Dame has a rich history in training teachers and is also one of our placement schools. Support
For all our secondary courses you will be allocated a mentor for each placement. All our school mentors are expert teachers who will support you throughout your placement. They have allocated time in their timetables to meet with you each week. In addition to this, you will work with a Lead Mentor. Your Lead Mentor will be a point of contact throughout the year and will support you through all your placements.
You will also have opportunity to speak with the wider SCITT team on your hub days in case you have any questions or concerns about the course.

Subject Support
During your placement you will be placed in the department related to your subject, where you will have the opportunity to work with teachers who are subject specialists and learn from their experience. In addition, we also provide subject specific training on our hub days, so you can learn about pedagogies that are research based and relevant to your specialism.
Entry Requirements
The Education (School Teachers' Qualifications) (England) Regulations 2003 sets the criteria for entrance to ITT courses in England. To be accepted onto one of our secondary courses we require the following qualifications:
A relevant degree from a United Kingdom higher education institution or equivalent qualification. You must have successfully completed your degree before starting the course, however you may apply if you are in your final year of study. If you apply for a subject that is not related to your degree you will need to have an A-Level in the relevant subject.
GCSE Maths and English or equivalent at grade 4(C) or above. If you are unsure if your qualifications are equivalent, please contact admin@sheffieldscitt.org.uk.
If you do not have the required GCSE (or equivalent grades) there are equivalency tests that can be taken before you apply
The European Network of Information Centres in the European Region (ENIC) provides advice on the equivalence of overseas degrees. To check if your qualifications meet the required standard in England you can ask for a statement of comparability from the UK European Network of Information Centres (UK ENIC)
The Framework for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies Higher Education Credit Framework for England describes the higher education qualifications awarded by UK higher education institutions (HEIs) at 5 levels.
Qualifications
We are looking for the next generation of outstanding teachers and future school leaders. You will be passionate about children and education but also care about our schools, the communities you serve and the special ethos each of those schools have.
You will have a good awareness of how schools operate and teachers work. Whatever your experience, applicants need to demonstrate how they will engage, inspire and communicate with the young people they will work with.
Personal Qualities
Two satisfactory references, one of which must be the current or most recent employer. If you have yet to complete your degree at the time of application both references can come from the establishment you are studying with.
Successful identity check - you will be required to bring your identification to interview.
Proof of qualifications – we will need to see the original certificates. If you have lost them, you will need to get replacements from the awarding body.
Eligibility to live and work/study in the UK
